Neegy (NEEGY) is a meme coin on Solana built on the "neegy" catchphrase, one of the fastest spreading pieces of internet slang of July 2026. Crypto Twitter shorthand filed it simply as the "viral saying" coin, and in early August 2026 it appeared in pump.fun ecosystem roundups among the platform's most traded tokens.
The meme
According to meme documentation site meme.com, the phrase comes from a Fortnite voice chat clip posted to TikTok on July 12, 2026, in which a child angrily yells a line at another player ending in the word "neegy." A July 14 repost pairing the audio with a long faced gold cartoon character circled in red drew over 500,000 likes within a week, and the format jumped to X and Instagram the same day. Know Your Meme dates the earliest viral post slightly earlier, to July 9, 2026, crediting TikTok user @1104yyh, whose clip was captioned "new slang" and captured a player angrily yelling "Man SYFBAU neegy," a line quickly shortened online to "SYFBAUN," which the community read as standing for "shut your fucking bitch ass up neegy." The word has no confirmed meaning; commentators associate it with Latino youth culture and the Edgar aesthetic, while some users claim it functions as a stand in for a racial slur, an association that has kept the trend controversial. Both readings circulate, and neither is settled.
Within days of the coin's launch, the community adopted its own abbreviated shorthand from the same source phrase: "sybau," repeated constantly in reply threads through late July 2026, for example "Sybau neegy" (@soldotal, July 26, 2026) and "Shut you bitch ass up NEEGY, sybau" (@p00persnitzel, July 24, 2026). As of mid August 2026, DexScreener showed the main Neegy token trading on PumpSwap with a market capitalization around 360,000 dollars and daily volume near 170,000 dollars, well off its peak, with numerous copycat Neegy tokens at negligible size.
Assessment
Neegy is a textbook attention trade: a coin whose entire thesis was the velocity of a sound clip. Its rise tracked the meme's spread and its fade began as the format saturated. The slur adjacent ambiguity of the word itself, whatever its actual etymology, gave the coin a notoriety premium and a reputational ceiling at the same time.
