moonpig (MOONPIG) is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain launched through pump.fun in early May 2025. Its mascot, a cartoon pig in a spacesuit, fused the oldest joke in crypto ("to the moon") with the equally old insult that traders are pigs, and for a few weeks in May 2025, boosted by Hyperliquid whale James Wynn adopting it as his flagship meme bet, it was the hottest chart in the trenches before collapsing into one of the cycle's most complete flame outs.

Origin

moonpig launched as a fair launch with no presale or team allocation, a structure its community emphasized after the insider scandals of early 2025. It was deployed by a pseudonymous wallet known by its suffix w3rE, whose only two other token launches had flopped; within the token's first three weeks that wallet became the top earner of pump.fun's creator revenue sharing program, collecting $93,780 in fees (about 610.2 SOL), roughly $9,566 per day against about $19.1 million in daily trading volume. Pump.fun cofounder alon pointed to the wallet's haul as proof of "new emergent behaviours on the platform as a direct result of creator revenue sharing." The project's official backstory tells of a pig, later named Nova per Bitrue's overview, who built a rocket from scrap and vanished toward the moon, leaving a faint pig shaped silhouette against the lunar glow; a May 19, 2025 marketing push branded the webcomic art style "The Moonpig Appeal" at the height of the run. That art style, closer to webcomic than corporate mascot, and a relentless posting culture on X pushed it through the May 2025 attention market, when Solana onchain volumes were recovering and traders were hunting for a new flagship microcap.

Market history

The May 2025 run was inseparable from James Wynn, the Hyperliquid whale then famous for a $1.1 billion bitcoin perpetual position, who adopted MOONPIG as his flagship meme bet and publicly compared it to PEPE; the token had close to 10,000 holders by late May 2025. moonpig's first centralized exchange listing came on Poloniex on May 22, 2025, one day before the top. The token's market capitalization ran from about 40 million to 113 million dollars in under a month, with CoinGecko dating the all time high to about $0.1227 on May 23, 2025 (other trackers report figures as high as 0.135 dollars). Hours after the top it fell roughly 60 percent, prompting rug pull fears that the community disputed. Claims that Wynn pumped the price and then sold into his own audience circulated afterward and remain unproven allegations. The coin's most famous artifact is a trader who reportedly turned 7,600 dollars into about 1.4 million dollars over 21 days of holding. The bleed continued into 2026: trader patty_fi's May 16, 2026 post, "Dumping all my Moonpig," drew 310 likes as a shared surrender meme. The token printed a fresh all time low of about $0.0002018 on August 16, 2026, and by August 19, 2026 its market capitalization sat near $204,000 with only two tracked trading venues left, PumpSwap and the small exchange KCEX, making moonpig one of the cycle's cleaner examples of full attention decay.

Drama

On August 8, 2026, streamer and token deployer slingoor, in a 307 like mea culpa thread, alleged that moonpig "was done purely to extract unlimited money bc he had supply control," calling James Wynn "the most scummiest con artist of all time." Slingoor said he had sent "every bit of info I could find" to onchain investigator ZachXBT, adding that the material had not been fully released and might never come to light. The allegation is unproven and, like the earlier claims of Wynn selling into his own audience, unresolved.

Cultural impact

moonpig was the last broadly celebrated "trench classic" before the mid 2025 rotation into launchpad politics and Useless Coin style concept memes. Its arc, a fair launch, a vertical month, one legendary winner, and a long bleed to zero, is used in retrospectives as the type specimen of a post 2024 meme coin life cycle, compressed and undisguised.
