Origin
USELESS launched during the launchpad wars between pump.fun and the BONK ecosystem's letsbonk.fun, and became the latter platform's signature graduate. The joke inverted years of roadmap driven marketing, wearing "no utility" as the product itself. The trade was heavily championed by the trader known as Unipcs, whose public multimillion dollar USELESS position became part of the coin's lore in the trenches.

After an initial run and a June 5, 2025, low, USELESS became one of the strongest Solana memes of summer 2025, gaining more than 2,400 percent in a month at one point and commanding a market capitalization of about 247 million dollars in July 2025. The Defiant described it leading the entire Solana meme scene during its run. Like its cohort it retraced substantially afterward, though it remained among the more traded 2025 vintage memes into 2026.
Cultural impact
USELESS is the thesis coin of the post utility era: after the AI meta's collapse and the political coin scandals of early 2025, a coin that promised nothing and therefore could not disappoint captured the market's mood exactly. "At least it's honest" became the standard defense of meme speculation, and USELESS the standard citation. It also proved letsbonk.fun could mint a top tier coin, fueling the launchpad's brief flip of pump.fun in July 2025.
