inversebrah, also known as smolting, is the pseudonymous archivist of Crypto Twitter, screenshotting the scene's best and worst moments so that no bad call is ever forgotten.

inversebrah, who posts as smolting, is a pseudonymous X account that functions as the collective memory of Crypto Twitter. Rather than publishing analysis, the account screenshots notable posts, terrible calls, euphoric tops, capitulation bottoms, and general cringe, then reposts them with minimal or no comment. Coverage by Decrypt and profile pieces describe the account as a self appointed historian and record keeper of CT culture, and traders routinely tag @inversebrah under a post they believe deserves preservation, a ritual known as getting archived. The person behind the account has never been identified, though profiles describe them as an active trader in their own right.

Origins

The @inversebrah account emerged after the suspension of a predecessor account, @cryptostardust, whose avatar flipped upside down became inversebrah's identity; per Protos, cryptostardust "fought 'Dr. Doom' Nouriel Roubini about the merits of crypto and heatedly lost access to his Twitter account." Decrypt dates the suspension to 2018 and Protos to 2019, a conflict the record has not resolved. The handle itself references an inverted Bitcoin chart joke, per Decrypt's 2021 profile, which counted over 116,000 followers at the time, described him as "the soul of Crypto Twitter, a vessel for its eternal memory," reported a pace of roughly 20 tweets per hour, and said he refuses to reveal his identity and communicates only via Telegram.

The growth curve since is its own receipt: from 116,000 followers in November 2021 to 640,257 followers and 357,659 posts by August 2026, ranked number 48 of 483,288 crypto accounts tracked by TwitterScore, with notable followers including Sam Altman, Cobie, ZachXBT, Anatoly Yakovenko, and Jesse Pollak. The current bio reads "professional it/that and lil/shid @wassie NOT A FROK D: mite be a multiagency fed (unproven)."

The archive

The mechanics are simple and merciless. When an influencer declares a coin can only go up, when a founder promises a product that never ships, or when a celebrated trader tops or bottoms a market in public, inversebrah screenshots it. Months later, when reality has rendered its verdict, the screenshot resurfaces. This gives the account a disciplinary function that formal media lacks: in the trenches, where KOL promises and deleted tweets are endemic, the archive is the reason deletion does not work. The phrase "smolting has the screenshot" expresses a working assumption that everything said on CT is permanent.

The summoning mechanic is documented: per Protos, anyone can "summon Smolting's powers by replying '@inversebrah'" to a post, whereupon he archives it and may reply with a screenshot from his archive; the same piece notes he frequently ignores summons "due to various commitments or approaching end-of-life cycles," lore consistent with the wassie two week lifespan. A working example from 2025: Protos documented him archiving LookOnChain's erroneous congratulation of trader James Wynn for more than 25 million dollars in Hyperliquid profits while Wynn was actually on a losing streak, "an archive in the permanent memory of the wassie collective." Archive actions have their own vocabulary ("a ratio was observed, smolchained"), and his daily "todays snapshot" posts function as a CT mood index.

The ritual runs constantly in the wild: accounts yell "get over here immediately" at him over unfolding drama, ZeroHedge has tagged him into billion dollar bet coverage, and even the official Pumpfun account speaks wassie at him ("do u do glaze ratings lil shid?"). When an August 2026 top traders list included Frank but not him, a reply called it "disrespect at a level I've never seen."

Wassie culture

inversebrah is also the central figure of wassie culture, the surreal mascot fauna of Crypto Twitter, documented in a 2021 Decrypt feature. Per Decrypt, the wassie character was created by a Japanese hentai artist and brought to Crypto Twitter by a user called Wasserpest (German for waterweed), from whom the name Smol Ting derives; smolting is described as the foremost wassie. In the canon Decrypt records, the wassie "dies violently every two weeks, before rising from the ashes, phoenix-like, his predecessor's memory intact," originated "from the most radioactive parts of the planet," and an infinite supply is "kept on ice, to be defrosted in a microwave." The community's own codification on the ByWassies wiki, cited here as lore, holds that wassies first surfaced around 1957 after a radioactive accident, resemble a duck, penguin, platypus, rat cross, have a maximum lifespan of 14 days due to the half life of their radioactive genetic material, and disintegrate within 2 hours of death before reassembling at spawning locations. The aesthetic of tiny doomed creatures enduring the market's violence became a shared emotional language for traders, and inversebrah's persona sits at its center. The identity humor around the person follows the same register, as in the circulated joke "i video called inversebrah once and it was actually a frog sitting in a herman miller."

Ventures

TwitterScore describes the account as cofounder of the Wassie NFT brand, with collections across Solana, Berachain, and Monad, an angel investor including in Monad, and the operator behind the 2024 Chariots for Paws charity mint supporting dog rescue organizations; these are the tracker's descriptions. In July 2026 he launched The Weekly Close, a recap show with @stanthecup under the @WeeklyCloseShow handle, announced in full wassie register: "ANNOUNCEMENT OF AN ANNOUNCEMENT. The Weekly Close is nigh" and "our very first The Weekly Close episode... observ and discuss ^-^."

Influence

Institutionally, inversebrah occupies a role no exchange or media outlet can: neutral, silent, and universally followed. Being archived by the account is treated as both an honor and a threat, and its timeline doubles as a real time sentiment record that traders scroll the way historians read newspapers. His own pronouncements age into doctrine, as with a September 2020 post still in circulation: "repeat after smolting: eth is an altcoin. altcoins are shitcons." Alongside figures like GCR and Cobie, the account is considered part of the permanent furniture of CT, one of the few handles that transcends cycles because its subject matter is the scene itself.
