Buttcoin (BUTTCOIN) is a satirical meme coin on the Solana blockchain, launched via pump.fun, that monetizes the oldest running joke in cryptocurrency: mocking Bitcoin itself. Its logo is the Bitcoin symbol rotated to resemble a butt, and its slogan is "the next Bitcoin, but without all the confusing tech talk."

"Buttcoin" predates almost every other crypto meme. The gag traces to 2011 posts on the Something Awful forums, which grew into the parody blog buttcoin.org, describing a "peer to peer butt" economy, and the r/Buttcoin subreddit, where skeptics have catalogued exchange collapses and industry absurdities for over a decade. A 2013 YouTube video by James D. McMurry titled "The Next Bitcoin?" gave the joke its slogan, appearing the same week Dogecoin launched. By early 2025 the subreddit counted roughly 194,000 members, an audience of professional Bitcoin mockers that a token could finally sell to.

Market history

An anonymous developer launched Buttcoin on pump.fun on January 30, 2025, and reportedly sold their own holding immediately, framing the coin as fully community owned. The debut was explosive: DL News reported the market capitalization spiking to nearly 59 million dollars within hours (other trackers recorded first day peaks closer to 36 million), followed by a crash below 500,000 dollars and a settle near 4 million dollars by mid February 2025, with over 12,000 holders.

The joke refused to die. During the January 2026 meme coin resurgence Buttcoin returned in force; Bybit's Alpha desk added it among new meme listings in mid January 2026, and CoinGecko dates the all time high of the actively tracked token to February 7, 2026, at a price implying roughly 49 million dollars in market capitalization. Trackers list more than one Buttcoin contract across the 2025 and 2026 runs, so figures differ by venue. As of mid August 2026 the live version holds about 9.5 million dollars in market capitalization with listings on PumpSwap, Meteora, LBank, and MEXC, making it one of the more durable mid caps of the 2026 class.

Cultural impact

Buttcoin is the purest example of irony completing its circle in the trenches: a community founded to ridicule speculative crypto became the brand for a speculative crypto asset, and its holders trade the mockery itself. Commentators grouped it with Useless Coin and fartcoin in the "honest coin" taxonomy, tokens whose pitch is that every other pitch is a lie. It appears regularly in pump.fun volume roundups through 2026 as a benchmark for how long a pure joke can hold a nine figure cumulative trading audience.
