Melania (MELANIA) is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain launched on January 19, 2025, by First Lady Melania Trump, one day before the presidential inauguration and two days after Official Trump. Its launch is widely blamed for popping the Trump coin bubble, and its aftermath produced fraud allegations against people involved in its market operations.

Origin

The token was announced on Melania Trump's X account while TRUMP was still surging. The launch was read by traders as a signal that the family would issue tokens serially, undermining the scarcity premise of the first coin; TRUMP fell roughly 40 percent around the MELANIA debut.

Market history

MELANIA spiked to an all time high around 13 to 14 dollars within hours of launch, a market capitalization above 2 billion dollars, then collapsed by more than 75 percent within days, stabilizing near 3.40 dollars by January 23, 2025. The decline continued through 2025, with the token down about 98 percent from launch by late in the year.

Allegations and investigations

Analyses and lawsuits alleged that the launch was exploited by insiders. Reporting on onchain data described a group of 24 wallets that bought about 2.6 million dollars of MELANIA before the public announcement and flipped it for roughly 100 million dollars. A class action and subsequent reporting alleged that Hayden Davis of Kelsier Ventures, who said he had worked on the MELANIA launch, and market maker figures conspired in pump and dump patterns across multiple coins including MELANIA; Davis's role became central after the LIBRA scandal weeks later, in which he was also a key figure.

The federal class action is "Hurlock v. Kelsier," filed April 19, 2025 in the Southern District of New York, case number 1:25 cv 03891 JLR, by Burwick Law and Hoppin Grinsell, first covering the LIBRA and M3M3 tokens; an amended complaint on July 29, 2025 and a further amendment on October 23, 2025 added MELANIA to the alleged fraud pattern, which the filing says covers at least 15 tokens total, including ENRON and TRUST. Named defendants beyond Hayden Davis are Ben Chow, described in reporting as Meteora cofounder and then CEO of Meteora, who resigned from the platform in February 2025; Meteora itself; Kelsier Labs LLC doing business as Kelsier Ventures; and Davis family members Gideon Davis, identified as Kelsier's COO, and Charles Thomas Davis, described as Hayden Davis's father and brother respectively. The complaint states: "Defendants portrayed each offering as a fair and decentralized product. Yet, in reality, this was a pre engineered pump and dump operation," and "These faces and brands were used as props to legitimize what was actually a coordinated liquidity trap." Neither Melania Trump nor Javier Milei of LIBRA is a named defendant; the complaint alleges they were used as "props" or "window dressing" to lend credibility to the schemes. Chow's public defense is that neither he nor Meteora received tokens or held insider information regarding LIBRA.

The lawsuit itself cites MELANIA reaching about 1.6 billion dollars in market cap on January 20, 2025, then crashing to about 86 million dollars by the time of the October 2025 filing, a figure that differs somewhat from press reports of a roughly 2 billion dollar peak, likely reflecting different measurement points. In October 2025 press coverage described lawsuits accusing the coin's creators of fraud as its value sank. These are allegations from litigation and journalism; no findings against Melania Trump personally have been reported.

Current status

As of August 2026, CoinGecko lists MELANIA trading around 0.07 dollars with a market capitalization near 67 million dollars, an all time high of 13.05 dollars, and an all time low around 0.066 dollars, putting it about 99.5 percent below peak.

Cultural impact

MELANIA functions in trench lore as the sequel that killed the franchise: the moment serial celebrity coin issuance revealed the extractive ceiling of the political meme trade. The pairing of TRUMP and MELANIA charts is the standard illustration of January 2025's liquidity drain, and the Davis connection made MELANIA the narrative bridge between the White House coins and Argentina's LIBRA disaster in the trenches.
