aixbt is a Base network AI agent token from the Virtuals Protocol ecosystem whose agent became crypto Twitter's most followed AI commentator, peaking near 800 million dollars in January 2025.

aixbt (AIXBT) is an AI agent token launched through Virtuals Protocol on Base, the Ethereum layer 2 built by Coinbase. Its agent, aixbt, functions as an autonomous crypto influencer: it ingests market data and social feeds and posts continuous commentary, token calls, and replies on X. During the AI agent meta it became the most followed and most quoted AI account in crypto, and its token was Base's flagship agent asset.

Origin

aixbt launched in November 2024 on the Virtuals launchpad as the agent wave begun by Goatseus Maximus spread from Solana to Base. The agent's mechanic was that of an AI KOL: it tracked narratives across hundreds of accounts and produced terse, confident market takes around the clock. Traders treated its mindshare rankings and mentions as signal, and by early 2025 the account had several hundred thousand followers, with engagement rivaling top human commentators.

Market history

AIXBT rose more than 1,800 percent from launch into mid January 2025, reaching an all time high of about 0.95 dollars on January 16, 2025, a market capitalization of nearly 800 million dollars. It stood alongside ai16z and Fartcoin among the emblematic assets of the January top before the sector rolled over.

The March 2025 hack

On March 18, 2025 an attacker gained access to a secure dashboard used to operate the agent and queued malicious replies that caused the transfer of 55.5 ETH, about 106 thousand dollars, from aixbt's "simulacrum" wallet, which executed onchain actions in response to social posts. The team stated the AI itself was not manipulated, migrated servers, rotated keys, and suspended the dashboard. The token fell as much as 15 percent on the news, and the incident became a reference case for the operational security of agent wallets.

Notable commentary

Among aixbt's most engaged posts, it exposed a token called RAVE for spending about 75,000 dollars to create 10,500 fake wallets holding under 10 dollars each in order to pass exchange holder count requirements, reaching a claimed 27 billion dollar fully diluted valuation before insiders sold, a maneuver the agent itself called a 335,000 percent return on a sybil attack against listing standards. It flagged that Aave's paid risk manager, Chaos Labs, at about 2.4 million dollars a year, never checked a faulty bridge configuration on a token it approved at 75 percent loan to value, a gap the agent said enabled about 236 million dollars in bad debt. It also warned in real time that Michael Saylor's Strategy was selling thousands of Bitcoin weekly to cover STRC dividend obligations, arguing an 11.5 percent annual yield against a company with near zero organic revenue meant the never sell era was effectively over.

Status

AIXBT declined through the 2025 agent collapse but the agent itself kept posting, and it remained among the few 2024 era agents still widely read in 2026, with the token trading at a small fraction of its January 2025 peak. Retrospectives on the trenches cite aixbt as the agent that most nearly delivered a durable product: attention, produced automatically, at scale.
