Wojak is a [[meme coin]] on Ethereum based on Wojak, the crudely drawn bald man also known as the feels guy, whose expressions of despair, cope, and euphoria are the universal emotional language of trading culture. It launched on April 17, 2023, at the height of the meme coin revival triggered by [[Pepe]]. ## Origin The Wojak character predates the coin by more than a decade, emerging around 2010 on the German imageboard Krautchan, its name taken from a Polish word for soldier. Over the years it splintered into an entire taxonomy, including the crying pink wojak of liquidated traders, the smug doomer, and the NPC, making Wojak the default portrait of market emotion. Anonymous developers deployed the WOJAK token on Ethereum with a supply of about 69 billion during the April 2023 frenzy, betting that the face every trader uses to describe pain deserved its own chart to cause it. ## Market history WOJAK jumped more than 570 percent within days of launch as the Pepe wave lifted every imageboard character on Ethereum, rising from about 0.00006 dollars in late April 2023 to an early May peak. After the 2023 mania cooled, the token faded, then revived in the late 2024 meme coin bull market, setting its all time high of about 0.002 dollars on November 25, 2024, a market capitalization of roughly 140 million dollars. The retrace that followed was nearly total: by August 2026 CoinGecko showed a market capitalization under 1 million dollars, about 99 percent below the peak. ## Cultural impact The WOJAK coin closed a loop in meme finance: the character invented to depict traders losing money became a token on which traders lost money, and pink wojak posting about the WOJAK chart became its own genre. Alongside [[Pepe]] and [[HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu]] it defined the April and May 2023 shitcoin season on Ethereum, the dress rehearsal for the industrialized meme launches of [[pump.fun]] and [[the trenches]]. Its near total round trip makes it a standard cautionary example of attention decay in meme markets. ## References - https://cryptonews.net/news/altcoins/20913837/ - https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/wojak - https://www.coinlore.com/coin/wojak - https://www.kraken.com/prices/wojak
