Uniswap is the automated market maker protocol founded by Hayden Adams in 2018 whose 2019 bonding curve token Unisocks became the direct ancestor of the fair launch mechanic every pump.fun style memecoin launchpad uses, and whose leaked Pools launchpad teaser accidentally spawned the Robinhood Chain meme coin Frong in 2026.

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange protocol on Ethereum, built by Hayden Adams and launched November 2, 2018. It introduced the automated market maker model, pricing trades against pooled liquidity through a bonding curve rather than an order book, an idea Adams later reused in 2019 for a sneaker token called Unisocks that is the direct ancestor of the bonding curve mechanic behind every fair launch memecoin platform today. In 2026 Uniswap Labs' own Pools launchpad became the unlikely origin point of a meme coin called Frong, after traders found its unreleased contracts through a leaked internal teaser and beat the company's own launchpad to market.

Origin

Adams was a laid off mechanical engineer who taught himself Solidity after reading a Vitalik Buterin blog post describing the automated market maker concept. He built and shipped Uniswap V1 on November 2, 2018.

From V1 to V4

V2 shipped in 2020, adding direct ERC20 to ERC20 pairs and flash swaps. V3 shipped in 2021, introducing concentrated liquidity so liquidity providers could park capital in narrow price ranges, a capital efficiency gain reported between 50x and 4,000x versus V2. V4 arrived across 2024 and 2025, adding programmable "hooks" that let developers attach custom logic and dynamic fees to a pool. Cumulative protocol volume across all versions has passed 3 trillion dollars.

Unisocks: the bonding curve ancestor

On May 9, 2019, at the Fluidity Summit in New York, Adams launched Unisocks (SOCKS), an ERC20 token redeemable for one of 500 physical socks, priced on a bonding curve with 500 SOCKS deposited into a 35 ETH pool. The first sock sold for 12 dollars; the token later peaked above 92,000 dollars, pushing the socks backed market cap over 20 million dollars before 185 tokens were burned on physical redemption. When Uniswap airdropped its UNI governance token, SOCKS holders and redeemers split a 220,000 UNI allocation. The bonding curve pricing mechanic Unisocks proved is the direct ancestor of the mechanic pump.fun and its clones use for every fair launch memecoin today.

The Frong story

Uniswap Labs built its own Pools launchpad, infrastructure designed primarily for tokenized stock trading, set to launch on Robinhood Chain. Product designer Zack Labadie made an internal teaser video file named frong.mp4 to promote it. When a leaked link to the teaser circulated, Adams reportedly replied to a question about what it showed with only a frog emoji.

Before Pools officially launched on August 5, 2026, traders discovered the unreleased smart contracts and moved 150 million dollars through them, forcing Uniswap Labs to support both the leaked test contracts and the final version at once. The Frong token minted from the leak six days before the official debut and had 12,141 holders by opening day, meaning traders effectively beat Uniswap's own launchpad to market with a coin built on its leaked branding.

Frong became Pools' unofficial mascot. The memecoin activity around it tripled Uniswap V4 volume on Robinhood Chain from 86.2 million to 228.3 million dollars in a single day. All Frong creator fees, reported at 13.2 ETH, were released and are being used for an ongoing buyback and burn funded personally by Labadie, the designer whose leaked video started the coin. Frong rejoined the Robinhood Chain launchpad leaderboard's upper ranks in early August 2026, jumping about 100 percent overnight even as rivals Cash Cat, StonkBroker, and newcomer IF reshuffled the standings, and the community catchphrase "FRONGS TOGETHER STRONG" circulated widely through the coin's summer 2026 run. Warnings also spread within the community that scam accounts were impersonating the Frong founder and spreading fake DEX links, a caution repeated in Chinese language crypto Twitter coverage of the story.

V4 hooks and the stock curve meta

Uniswap V4's hooks have become general purpose infrastructure for the stock curve memecoin scene beyond Frong. Robinhood Chain launchpads built on Uniswap V4 let traders price a new memecoin against real equities such as NVDA, TSLA, and SPCX through hook based curves, with Uniswap's own pooling mechanism acting as the settlement layer for a wave of 2026 tokenized stock memecoins.

Not to be confused with Hayden Davis

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams is a different person from Hayden Davis, the Kelsier Ventures figure behind LIBRA and MELANIA. The two share a first name only and are unrelated individuals.

Legacy

Uniswap and its UNI governance token remain core Ethereum infrastructure well beyond memecoins, the base layer decentralized exchange that trench trading on Ethereum and its rollups routes through, from the 2019 sneaker token that proved the bonding curve model to the 2026 launchpad leak that proved traders will beat a platform to its own market.
