Shadow, posting under the handle @_Shadow36, is a pseudonymous X account that became one of the most visible giveaway operations on [[Crypto Twitter]]. Created in November 2023, the account had grown to 173,398 followers by August 2026, per TwitterScore, with 87,956 lifetime posts, or roughly ninety posts a day, the posting volume signature of the giveaway format. Growth came largely from recurring giveaways of SOL and cash to followers. Its bio reads "literally just a shadow," and notable followers per TwitterScore include [[CZ]], [[Murad Mahmudov|Murad]], smolting, Luca Netz, Frank and John Wang. The person or team behind it is not publicly known.

## The giveaway format

Indexed posts from the account include a December 2024 giveaway of 21 SOL split across three winners, along with later giveaways advertising 6,000 dollars split three ways and 5,000 dollars to a single winner. The format follows the standard mechanics of the genre described in exchange education guides such as Bitrue's: entry requires engagement, which turns every giveaway into a reply flood, and in trench circles those reply sections fill with ticker shills as traders use the guaranteed audience to promote their coins. That dynamic is why giveaway posts from large accounts recur endlessly in [[the trenches]] feeds: the prize buys reach, and the reach becomes a venue for [[shill]] activity whether or not the account intends it. Between giveaways the account posts terse market takes, such as an August 2025 post reading simply "stockcoin." during the tokenized equities narrative. The cadence continued through late 2025 and 2026: a Christmas Day 2025 giveaway drew replies such as "Dam that's a massive giveaway, the goat merry Christmas Shadow" alongside openly opportunistic ones like "not here for the giveaway here to shill my bag," and a May 20, 2026 giveaway drew the meme reply "Grown ahhh man doing a giveaway."

## Evolution into cult coin promotion

By August 2026 the account's register had shifted from pure giveaways toward open cult coin cheerleading across chains. On August 16, 2026 it posted "Conviction looks good on you. WE. WILL. WIN. $Troll $Buttcoin $GIGA $Retire $Nothing," "SEND ALL SOL RUNNERS SEND ALL BNB RUNNERS SEND ALL ROBINHOOD RUNNERS SEND EVERYTHING DAMMIT," and "9 figures would look good on $cupsey don't you think?" The same day it described the account as running in some restricted configuration without elaborating: "I love the fam I grew on here man. This private shit aint too bad we cookin lowkey lol. Lets just strengthen the fam and win forever." What "private" refers to is not stated elsewhere and is reported here only as a quote.

The shilling pairs with an occasional philanthropic note, as in an August 16, 2026 post telling followers who "make absurd amounts of money" to "give just a little back to your family or a cause to help others." When asked directly what to buy, the account answers in kind: replying to one follower the same day, "Id ape $troll then $cupsey imo," and to another, "Oh and you can also ape $buy!"

## The giveaway meta

Giveaway accounts occupy a contested spot in CT's attention economy. Followers treat them as free lottery tickets; critics describe the format as textbook [[engagement farming]], since follows and replies harvested with prizes inflate reach that can later be monetized through promotion. Security writers add a darker edge: Bitrue's guide to Solana community giveaways warns that the format is heavily imitated by scammers and advises users to verify accounts and never enter seed phrases or connect wallets to unknown sites, advice that applies to the genre as a whole rather than to any specific account. Shadow's scale made it a reference point in these arguments, and the trenches paid it the standard tribute: community deployed [[pump.fun]] tokens named after the account, none of which reached meaningful size.

The reply sections function as both a loyalty economy and a pitch venue. One follower described years of unrewarded participation in an April 22, 2026 reply: "I've always been your reply guy ever since I found your account years ago. I show up everyday, reply to every post, reply to your replies too and I've never won a giveaway from you. I know this can change." Community accounts use the same threads to pitch coins directly to Shadow, for instance a Snorp holder arguing "Any giveaway is in good hands with Snorp holders," a [[titcoin]] team member pitching the coin around a breast cancer donation angle, and a reply reading "No giveaway just 1% of twin looks good here." The tribute extends beyond token deployments named for the account: a separate giveaway account called SolShadowCat operates in its orbit, and an April 2026 poster celebrated winning an iPad from it while quoting Shadow, "Blessed by both legendary shadow"; no documented relationship exists between the two accounts.

No investigation or mainstream reporting has made specific allegations about the account; assessments above reflect the general debate around the giveaway format.
