A prediction market is an exchange where traders buy and sell contracts that pay out on the outcome of real world events, from elections to sports to Fed decisions. Prices function as probabilities: a contract trading at 62 cents implies a 62 percent chance. On [[crypto twitter]] the format has become infrastructure, with odds screenshots posted as evidence the way earlier eras posted polls or headlines. ## Polymarket Polymarket, founded by Shayne Coplan in 2020, settles in USDC onchain and became the category's flagship during the 2024 US election, when its presidential market alone did nearly 3.7 billion dollars in volume. A French trader known as Theo staked over 45 million dollars on a Trump win across four accounts, partly on the basis of neighbor polling he commissioned himself, and cleared tens of millions in profit. The election cemented the habit of citing "Polymarket odds" as news. Barred from serving US users since a 2022 CFTC settlement, Polymarket relaunched in the United States on December 2, 2025 through its licensed exchange QCEX, and by 2026 was reported in funding talks at valuations between 9 and 15 billion dollars. ## Kalshi Kalshi, founded in 2018, took the regulated route as a CFTC designated exchange and grew fastest through sports event contracts. Its reported valuation ran from 11 billion dollars in December 2025 to 22 billion in March 2026, with an August 2026 raise discussed near 40 billion. The Block reported combined Polymarket and Kalshi volume of 44.8 billion dollars in June 2026, more than triple the average monthly handle of all legal US sportsbooks in 2025. ## Solana attempts [[Solana]] spent 2026 trying to onshore the category. Jupiter announced a Polymarket integration on February 1, 2026, adding a Prediction tab to [[jupiter]], and on July 1, 2026 the onchain prediction market World launched inside [[phantom wallet]], settling trades in the CASH stablecoin via Chainlink oracles. Drift Protocol and smaller venues offer prediction style derivatives, but no Solana native platform has approached the incumbents' volume. ## Why CT treats odds as news Prediction market prices update faster than journalism and put money behind claims, which suits a culture that already scores everything in PnL. Odds on elections, ETF approvals, and legislation such as the [[CLARITY Act]] circulate as tradeable narrative, and the [[politifi meta]] leaned on them heavily. Critics note markets can be thin, manipulable, and reflexive, moving on the same rumors they are cited to confirm, but in the trenches a liquid market is treated as the least dishonest pundit available. ## References - https://www.theblock.co/post/324996/french-polymarket-whale-us-election-profit-france-ban - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/french-whale-made-over-80-million-on-polymarket-betting-on-trump-election-win-60-minutes/ - https://metamask.io/news/kalshi-vs-polymarket - https://www.benzinga.com/Opinion/26/08/61097119/kalshi-eyes-40b-valuation-while-polymarket-targets-20b-is-either-one-actually-exploring-an-ipo - https://defirate.com/news/polymarket-eyes-15b-valuation-gap-with-kalshi-widens/ - https://invezz.com/news/2026/02/02/jupiter-integrates-polymarket-bringing-on-chain-prediction-markets-to-solana/ - https://www.theblock.co/post/406900/solana-based-prediction-market-app-on-phantom-wallet-launches
