Mog Coin is a [[meme coin]] on Ethereum built around the internet slang term mogging, meaning to dominate or outshine someone so completely that they are "mogged." Launched in July 2023, it described itself as the internet's first culture coin and became one of the defining Ethereum memes of the 2024 cycle.

## Origin

MOG was launched in July 2023 by a pseudonymous figure known as "Aug," reportedly after months of joking about creating the token inside a private group chat of Milady NFT community members, rooting MOG's origin in the same Milady adjacent Crypto Twitter cluster that also produced [[Milady Meme Coin]]. It was a fair launch with no presale, deployed as a supply of 420.69 trillion tokens via a Uniswap V2 liquidity pool, echoing the meme numerology popularized by [[Pepe]]. Rather than a single mascot, the project adopted an aesthetic: "Joycat," a laughing cat wearing Pit Viper sunglasses, became the community mascot, and holders coined "effortless cosmic domination" as their definition of mogging. The term itself traces further back to a May 19, 2016 post on 4chan's /fit/ board describing a seven foot tall bodybuilder, rooted in pickup artist and bodybuilding forum slang around the acronym AMOG, alpha male of the group. The token spread through Crypto Twitter as an in joke about status itself.

## Market history

MOG traded at a market capitalization of about 50 million dollars in February 2024 before the meme coin bull market carried it to over 475 million dollars by mid March 2024. Momentum returned in late 2024. In November 2024 Coinbase announced a spot listing, and MOG jumped about 20 percent, approaching a 1 billion dollar market capitalization and briefly entering the top 100 cryptocurrencies. Its all time high price of about 0.000004 dollars came on December 6, 2024, a market capitalization of roughly 1.5 billion dollars based on its circulating supply.

A second major rally hit in May 2025: on May 5, 2025, Elon Musk changed his X profile picture to include Pit Viper sunglasses, the MOG community's signature look, and Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan followed suit, declaring he would "always be mogging." MOG surged more than 40 percent within 24 hours and extended to about 130 percent over 30 days, as tech figures including Bryan Johnson and Reid Hoffman joined the "mog/acc" avatar trend.

The token fell hard through 2025 and 2026. By August 2026 CoinGecko showed a market capitalization near 36 million dollars, about 98 percent below the peak.

## Cultural impact

MOG demonstrated that a meme coin could be built on a vibe rather than a character, an approach later echoed by attitude coins across [[the trenches]]. Its community exported the mog vocabulary into mainstream crypto discourse, and its rise alongside [[Pepe]] and [[Brett]] made 2024 the peak year for Ethereum and Base meme culture before attention rotated to [[Solana]] and [[pump.fun]]. The May 2025 "mog/acc" avatar wave, spreading from Crypto Twitter into wider tech culture, showed the vocabulary still had reach nearly two years after launch. It also became a standard cautionary reference for how far culture coins can retrace once the culture moves on.
