memefi is an emerging crypto Twitter era label, in wide use only since August 21, 2026, most concretely describing memecoins gaining real financial mechanics such as dividend or fee sharing structures, though the term carries no single agreed mechanic and no single documented coiner.
Not to be confused with the unrelated, pre existing 2024 Telegram tap to earn game of the same name; see Distinguish below.
memefi is an era label term for memecoins that went viral in English language crypto Twitter on August 21, 2026, when Ansem posted a one line historical progression framing the current cycle as finance itself moving onto meme rails. The term carries no single agreed mechanic, and multiple incompatible definitions circulate at once: some use it as pure narrative rotation with nothing new attached, others as shorthand for a KOL run token ecosystem, others for the claim that meme trading now simply outperforms traditional finance. Its single most concrete recurring meaning, and the one that predates Ansem's post by roughly three weeks, describes memecoins gaining real financial mechanics, chiefly dividend or fee sharing structures modeled on tokenized stocks, rather than running on narrative alone. Because the word only became widely used days before this article was written, its meaning should be read as emerging and unsettled, not fixed.
Origin
The word circulated as a loose hashtag among small, unconnected accounts for months before anyone is documented explaining it as a coined portmanteau, and no single person can be credited as memefi's coiner with confidence.
The earliest clearly dated use located is a hashtag, not an explained coinage. On June 16, 2026, at 19:02:15 UTC, @TLS_FLAP, the demo token account for the BNB Chain wave described below, posted "#TLS #MemeFi #Flap #ListaDAO #BNB" among a longer hashtag string, 62 likes, treating MemeFi as one generic tag alongside several others rather than a defined term. The same loose, generic hashtag use continued into unrelated corners of crypto Twitter afterward: @BTTJester tagged an unrelated Tron meme coin "#memefi" among a long list of hashtags including #memecoin and #MemeCoinSeason, a pattern repeated as late as July 31, 2026, "有grok要来投资我们了?欧皇附体的一天🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀 #memecoin #MemeCoinSeason #TronMemeSeason #memefi."
The earliest post located that actually spells out an etymology is from a small account, @kkkshuren, replying to another small account on August 2, 2026 at 03:56:21 UTC, zero likes: "meme+defi=memefi,解决defi无法普及和meme无用的难题,取长补短,1+1>2,memefi可能是真正的杀手级应用!" ("meme plus defi equals memefi, solves the problem that defi can't reach mass adoption and meme is useless, complementary strengths, 1 plus 1 is greater than 2, memefi might be the real killer app"). But kkkshuren was not coining the word that day. He had already used the bare term himself three days earlier, on July 29, 2026, tying "MemeFi" to Binance Chain value capture, ListaDAO and flapdotsh, the same framing he elaborated in his August 2 reply. Separately, @flaunchgg, an NFT Fi platform elsewhere treated as a same day coincidental adopter of the word on August 21, had in fact already used it three weeks earlier, on July 30, 2026: "DeFi, MemeFi and TradFi are about to get smashed together inside a Uniswap V4 hook. Let's have some fun ☀️"
The post that carried the word to a real audience for the first time is @nina_rong's, an account with roughly 39,500 to 39,800 followers at the time: "@flapdotsh @BNBCHAIN @PancakeSwap tradfi meets memefi," August 3, 2026, 10:39:24 UTC, 177 likes when first logged, since grown past 250. A MEMEFI token pair, quoted against a token called SPY, went live on PancakeSwap 62 seconds later, at 10:40:26 UTC the same day, per DexScreener's pairCreatedAt field, a small preview of the reflex that would repeat at far larger scale three weeks after. flapdotsh, the token's own launchpad account, echoed the line the same day: "Tradfi meets memefi on @BNBCHAIN 🫡 Keep building," 47 likes when first logged, since grown past 70.
This BNB Chain wave ran for roughly a week and a half, August 3 through 11, 2026, in a mix of Chinese and English replies, and it meant something narrower and more specific than Ansem's later usage: dividend or fee sharing meme tokens modeled on tokenized stocks, tied explicitly to Binance's contemporaneous rollout of tokenized, dividend paying stock products. @Cendolnice framed it that way on August 5, 2026: "从币安的角度看,这个分红机制绝不是单纯给memecoin加个噱头...Nina Rong说的memefi,其实已经隐隐成型...这将是下一代memecoin的核心形态:不是只靠叙事和FOMO,而是有真实分红、真实价值捕获的'机制型meme'" ("from Binance's angle, this dividend mechanism isn't just a gimmick tacked onto memecoins, the memefi Nina Rong is talking about is already quietly taking shape, this will be the next generation of memecoin: not just narrative and FOMO, but a mechanism type meme with real dividends and real value capture"). This narrower usage was still alive and self identifying as the authoritative one on the very morning Ansem posted, hours ahead of his tweet: "#memefi leader ListaDAO $TLS Only dividend paying sBNB is true Memefi," @htzf0123, August 21, 2026, 03:02 UTC.
No post has been located in which anyone, including Ansem, claims personal authorship of memefi. The word's popular credit, Ansem, and its earliest documented uses, a scatter of small, BNB Chain adjacent accounts three weeks and more before his post, are simply different people, a gap this article reports rather than resolves.
The Ansem catalyst
Ansem, posting as @blknoiz06, wrote the post that took memefi viral in English language crypto Twitter, originally sent as three separate lines: "2020 we had defi," "2023 we had memecoins," "2026 we have memefi," August 21, 2026, 08:35:42 UTC. The post supplies no mechanic, only a historical progression. It is not a reply or quote of the earlier BNB Chain usage, and whether Ansem had seen that wave before posting is not established either way; it reads as a freestanding line rather than a response to the existing usage. Engagement climbed fast, from 547 likes and 62 retweets when first logged shortly after posting to past 2,700 likes and 246 retweets within the day, consistent with continued organic growth rather than any correction.
Replies split between adoption and mockery within minutes. Some read it as pure narrative rotation with no new mechanic attached: "@blknoiz06 Crypto really said: DeFi to Memecoins to MemeFi. Never running out of narratives 😂" @getalertio, 08:44:17 UTC. Others used the word as shorthand for a KOL run token ecosystem: "And $ansem is leading memefi" @ImPushingSOL, 09:27:35 UTC, 21 likes. Others read it as a claim that meme trading now beats traditional finance outright: "tradfi bros are gonna be punching the air as soon as they see memefi bros average returns compared to theirs" @meechie, 10:22:37 UTC, 51 likes. Others treated it as a straight successor label to the prior cycle's own slogan, writing "memecoin supercycle" becoming "memefi supercycle," @notanicecat69, later the same day.
Pushback was present in the replies but outweighed by agreement. @vanillacrusz rejected the label outright and proposed a rival one instead, "MemeFi" against a term they called "PriFi." @cryptowizard811 replied dismissively, predicting the trend would simply end up as more exit liquidity. @getalertio's "never running out of narratives" line, quoted above, is the clearest single dunk located. Basic confusion was also common in the replies themselves, including direct requests that Ansem define the term. Unqualified agreement replies outnumbered pushback in the sources reviewed for this article, for example @gemchaindotapp's "agree bro memefi going to name of this cycle 💯."
flaunchgg applied the label to its own, unrelated NFT Fi product the same day, in a longer thread: "We are bringing MemeFi to NFT-Fi and beyond," posted at 17:35:00 UTC, considerably later in the day than the replies quoted above. Given the account's own July 30 use of the word, this reads as a continuation of language flaunchgg already owned rather than a fresh, same day coincidence.
The instant tickers
The Robinhood Chain and Solana rush that followed Ansem's post echoed a smaller version of the same reflex from three weeks earlier, when nina_rong's own BNB Chain post triggered a live MEMEFI pair 62 seconds later (see Origin above). Within an hour of Ansem's tweet, new tokens ticker MEMEFI began launching across Solana, Binance Chain and Robinhood Chain, the reflex the wiki already documents for viral CT slogans. A DexScreener search for MEMEFI returned at least fifteen distinct trading pairs; excluding two dormant pairs that predate this wave and the BNB Chain pair tied to the August 3 wave described above, at least eleven pairs were created within roughly an hour of Ansem's 08:35:42 UTC post. None of these tokens is official, endorsed, or connected to Ansem or any other named account absent that account's own confirmation.
The fastest and most heavily traded new ticker was on Solana. Per pump.fun's own API, a MEMEFI mint was created 53 seconds after Ansem's post, at 08:36:35 UTC; a matching DexScreener bonding curve pair carries the identical timestamp. The token graduated to a full PumpSwap liquidity pool 17 seconds after that, 70 seconds after the post, per DexScreener's pairCreatedAt field for the graduated pair, a distinction worth naming since the two figures measure different moments, mint and graduation, rather than disagreeing with each other. As reported for this article, the token showed roughly 23,000 buys and 20,000 sells and about 2.38 million dollars in 24 hour volume against a roughly 41,000 dollar market cap, branded independently as memefionsol.lol and @MEMEFI_SOL_.
On Robinhood Chain, the fastest documented example took considerably longer than an early figure in circulation suggested. Per Robinhood Chain's own Blockscout explorer, reading the timestamp on the deployment transaction itself rather than the DexScreener pair, a MEMEFI token contract was created at 09:27:49 UTC, 52 minutes after Ansem's post; a Uniswap v4 pool for it went live 42 seconds after that, per DexScreener's pairCreatedAt field. A second Robinhood Chain pair, on the flap.sh launchpad, went live faster, 3 minutes 36 seconds after the post, also per DexScreener's pairCreatedAt field. At least six further Robinhood Chain pairs followed between roughly 08:39 and 09:32 UTC the same morning, each with comparatively small liquidity, consistent with copy paste ticker sniping rather than one organized launch. A separate, not yet graduated pump.fun pair appeared on Solana roughly five hours after the post, at 13:44:21 UTC.
Two CT accounts, within roughly ninety minutes of Ansem's post, claimed the fast growing Solana PumpSwap token specifically was launched through Ansem.io, the token launch and curation platform Ansem opened August 17, 2026, four days before his memefi post, and that it powers what they called the Ansem ecosystem. Ansem.io reserves at least 3 percent of supply for holders of The Black Bull ($ANSEM) on coins created through the site, coins that remain pump.fun tokens under the hood. Both posts name the same Solana mint, and it is verifiably the token described above by its own memefionsol.lol and @MEMEFI_SOL_ branding, which carries no visible reference to Ansem or Ansem.io. No independent source, and no listing found on Ansem.io's own site or its z500 leaderboard, confirms the connection; it should be read strictly as a community claim, not a confirmed fact.
Distinguish
memefi as used in this article has nothing to do with an existing project that happens to share the name. MemeFi is also the name of a real, unrelated 2024 Telegram native tap to earn game in which players fight meme inspired bosses modeled on Pepe and Doge, built with Sui creators Mysten Labs and covered by Decrypt and Cointelegraph at the time as a viral Telegram game with millions of players. Its token is native to the Sui network, not the TON network some crypto Twitter replies have mistakenly guessed, with an airdrop on November 12, 2024 following a snapshot taken November 6, 2024. This 2024 project is entirely unrelated to the current usage covered in this article and should not be assumed to share any lineage with it, an assumption at least one reply to Ansem's own post is already making, mistakenly, about the game's own chain: "@blknoiz06 There's a coin called Memefi on ton," @Vows_YID, August 21, 2026.
A separate, unrelated coinage flickered in the same window and should not be read as a response to memefi either. VibeFi is a real product announcement from Virtuals Protocol's expansion onto Solana, built with @Slayed_eth: "Virtuals x Solana. VibeFi. 1HR," @commonsmade, August 21, 2026, 15:00:12 UTC, roughly six and a half hours after Ansem's post. Follow up posts describe VibeFi as a social reputation and airdrop mechanic gating a leaderboard airdrop by a user's Ethos Network score and GitHub reputation, unconnected to memecoin or DeFi mechanics. No source located ties VibeFi to memefi as commentary, parody or rebuttal; replies to the announcement show genuine confusion rather than pointed reference to the older term, and the single closest located connection to memefi as an idea is about VibeFi's own branding rather than a nod to Ansem's post.
Lineage
memefi is the newest entry in a small family of Solana adjacent and crypto Twitter era labels used to narrate the current cycle as a historical progression, alongside Internet Capital Markets and IBRL. Unlike those two terms, memefi lacks a claimed author. Mert Mumtaz has explicitly claimed personal authorship of both Internet Capital Markets and IBRL as part of what he calls his own repeated "manlet slogans," but no comparable claim of authorship for memefi has been located from Ansem or anyone else. Where Internet Capital Markets and IBRL both originate as Solana specific framings, memefi's own coinage chain runs through Binance Chain accounts before its viral break happened via a Solana ecosystem figure and a rush of Robinhood Chain, Solana and Binance Chain tokens, a broader, chain agnostic frame from the start.
Current status
memefi went from a scattered hashtag to a viral crypto Twitter slogan and a wave of new tokens within a single week, and as of August 21, 2026, the word is only days old. Whether it settles into an era label for the 2026 cycle the way Internet Capital Markets and IBRL did for Solana specifically, or fades within a week as one more narrative rotation that crypto Twitter mocked even while repeating it, is not yet knowable from the record so far.
