## Function Jito comprises Jito Labs, the Jito Foundation, a modified Solana validator client, and the JitoSOL liquid staking token. The Jito Solana client lets validators accept bundles, groups of transactions submitted through Jito's block engine with an attached tip paid in SOL. Tips function as a parallel [[priority fee]] market: the more a trader tips, the more likely their transaction lands first. The JTO governance token launched by airdrop on December 7, 2023. Because a majority of Solana stake has run Jito's client family, its auction rules effectively define transaction ordering for the network. ## Use in the trenches Every serious [[sniping]] setup and trading bot exposes a Jito tip setting, and the size of the tip decides who wins the block when a [[pump.fun]] token migrates or a [[graduation]] snipe fires. Bundles also enable [[bundling]] at launch, where deployers buy their own token across many wallets in one atomic bundle, and they power the MEV protection modes advertised by bots like [[Trojan]] and terminals like [[Axiom]]. Jito sits on both sides of the trenches arms race: it is the rails for snipers and the shield against the [[sandwich attack]]. ## History Jito Labs was founded in 2021 and raised a Series A from Multicoin Capital and Framework Ventures in August 2022. Its mempool product, which let searchers view pending transactions, became controversial as sandwich attacks against retail memecoin traders grew, and in March 2024 Jito suspended the mempool entirely, a decision covered by CoinDesk and Blockworks as a rare case of infrastructure removing a profitable feature for ecosystem health. Sandwiching migrated to private infrastructure, a persistent trenches grievance. In July 2025 Jito announced the Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM), a transparent block building system using secure hardware, which reached mainnet on September 25, 2025 and by 2026 ran on a majority of validators by count, with the Jito client family holding roughly half of network stake according to Blockworks reporting. ## Status in 2026 Jito remains core Solana infrastructure in 2026, with BAM expanding, JitoSOL among the largest liquid staking tokens, and tips still the price of speed in the trenches. ## References - https://www.coindesk.com/business/2024/03/08/solana-client-developer-jito-announces-end-of-mempool-function - https://blockworks.com/news/jito-labs-suspends-mempool-functionality - https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2025/07/21/jito-launches-bam-to-reshape-solanas-blockspace-economy - https://blockworks.com/news/jito-bam-solana-mainnet - https://www.helius.dev/blog/block-assembly-marketplace-bam - https://www.coinlive.com/news/jito-labs-upcoming-airdrop-token-claim-and-what-to-expect
