Gigachad (GIGA) is a meme coin on the [[Solana]] blockchain based on the Gigachad meme, the hyper masculine black and white photographs of Russian model Ernest Khalimov that became a global shorthand for idealized "chad" energy. GIGA is one of the era's flagship [[community takeover]] stories.

## Origin

On December 4, 2024, Coinbase announced GIGA for its listing roadmap, driving a 37 percent surge. The project drew public endorsements from Khalimov himself, who confirmed he was the man in the photos, along with bodybuilder Mike O'Hearn and UFC fighter Paulo Costa. In November 2024 one investor reportedly lost about 6 million dollars of GIGA in a phishing attack using a fake Zoom invite. The token declined through 2025 to a market capitalization in the tens of millions.

## Cultural impact
