Ghiblification (GHIBLI) is a meme coin on the [[Solana]] blockchain launched through [[pump.fun]] in late March 2025. It was the leading token of the "Ghiblification" wave, a period of a few days in which social media was flooded with AI generated images imitating the style of the Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli.

## Origin

On March 25, 2025 OpenAI released image generation for its 4o model inside ChatGPT. Users immediately discovered that prompts such as "restyle image in studio ghibli style" produced convincing pastiches of the studio's films, and within hours timelines on X were dominated by Ghibli versions of memes, family photos and news images. Elon Musk posted a Ghibli styled Dogecoin meme, and executives at Ripple and other crypto firms joined the trend, pushing it directly into crypto attention markets. The trend ran against the well documented views of Studio Ghibli co founder Hayao Miyazaki, who had earlier called AI animation "an insult to life itself," a tension that became part of the meme itself.

An anonymous creator tokenized the moment on pump.fun as Ghiblification, and the coin became the consensus vehicle for the trend within a day.

## Market history

According to Decrypt, GHIBLI reached a market capitalization of about 28.3 million dollars in less than a day before easing back to roughly 18 million dollars by March 27, 2025. Aggregator coverage described gains in the tens of thousands of percent from the launch price, and CoinMarketCap's research desk framed the episode as a roughly 40,000 percent surge across the Ghibli token cluster. Imitators followed on other chains, including GhibliCZ on BNB Chain, which peaked around 14.6 million dollars. As of mid August 2026 the original Solana token trades at a market capitalization of about 100,000 dollars per DexScreener, the standard full decay of a trend coin.

## Cultural impact

Ghiblification is remembered as the cleanest example of the 2025 pattern in which a general internet trend, not a crypto native joke, was tokenized within hours of appearing. It preceded the [[gork]] and Grok companion waves later in the year and is often cited in retrospectives on how quickly [[the trenches]] converted AI news cycles into charts. The coin had no connection to Studio Ghibli, which never commented on it.
