Dupe (DUPE) is a token on the [[Solana]] blockchain launched in May 2025 through [[Believe]], the launchpad that briefly rebranded speculation as "internet capital markets" by letting real startups get tokenized with a tweet. DUPE is tied to dupe.com, a consumer shopping tool that finds cheaper lookalikes of furniture and home goods.

## Origin

Believe's pitch in spring 2025 was that coins should attach to actual internet products rather than mascots, with trading fees flowing to founders. Dupe.com was one of the recognizable consumer names swept into the wave: the site describes itself as "the internet's most viral shopping hack," had been featured on The Today Show, and claimed over a million monthly shoppers. Dupe.com was built by Bobby Ghoshal and Ramin Bozorgzadeh as a Web2 shopping app before its 2025 tokenization; Ghoshal's own X bio lists prior credentials of having "Grew @wework from 1 country to 25 + 100 million dollars in revenue to 5 billion dollars, Raised over 250 million dollars," making DUPE an unusually credentialed founder pair for a Believe launch. That mainstream legibility made DUPE one of the tokens bulls pointed to when arguing the model was more than meme coins in business attire. CoinGecko classifies the token in the Believe.app ecosystem alongside the platform's other launches.

## Market history

DUPE ran with the Believe mania of mid May 2025, when the platform's own LAUNCHCOIN token and its leading project coins went vertical together. Per CoinGecko, DUPE hit its all time high price of about 0.062 dollars on May 13, 2025, an implied market capitalization of about 62 million dollars on its billion token supply. Trader xander recapped DUPE among his highlighted 2025 calls in a June 24, 2025 thread, citing a run from "1M to 78M" market capitalization, a trader claim that exceeds CoinGecko's cited all time high and likely reflects the trader's own entry and exit tracking rather than the coin's peak print. The internet capital markets meta deflated within weeks as fee flows disappointed and attention rotated, and DUPE bled with the sector through late 2025. As of mid August 2026 it trades at a market capitalization of about 1.2 million dollars per CoinGecko.

## Community story

DUPE's arc became a standard reference in the postmortems of the Believe era: a real product with real users whose token nonetheless traded like any other attention asset, peaking on the platform's single hottest day and never reclaiming it. Defenders note the site itself continued operating regardless of the chart, which was, in a sense, the point of the experiment. In CT taxonomy it sits with [[Gas Town]] and other "builder coins" as evidence for and against tokenizing products, depending on who is citing it.

The Believe launchpad's own reputation collapsed around DUPE's decline: founder Benjamin Pasternak was indicted on second degree strangulation and assault charges in 2025, with a court appearance scheduled for June 11, adding reputational drag across every token launched through the platform. This is an allegation and criminal charge, not a conviction. DUPE later migrated its liquidity to Meteora and formally ended its relationship with Believe as a launchpad, separating the token from the platform's collapsing brand.

## Current status

As of mid August 2026 the token survives with small daily volume on Meteora pools while dupe.com continues as a normal web business.
