Doom (DOOM) is a meme coin on [[Solana]] attached to Doom Solana, a browser playable adaptation of id Software's 1993 shooter DOOM wired into the Solana chain. It belongs to the small play to earn revival of mid 2026, in which pump.fun era coins bolted prize mechanics onto free games to convert players into holders and holders into content. ## Origin: the Sandy Petersen post The launch's defining event came on August 3, 2026, when Sandy Petersen, posting from his known @SandyofCthulhu account, published the token's pump.fun mint address with the message "Excited to build with you all!" Petersen is one of the credited designers of the original 1993 DOOM at id Software, so the coin traded from day one on a claim of original developer involvement. Reception of Petersen's post split instantly between awe and suspicion; replies the same evening ranged from "you shaped my childhood" to "Your not hacked I hope?" and "s tier grifter btw." Within hours a heavy reply shill wave was pushing the coin under big accounts with copy paste lines like "Support by doom creators himself" and price targets of "20mili by today," a signature of a coordinated raid campaign around the launch. ## The game Doom Solana, hosted at doomsol.com, runs The Ultimate DOOM's four episodes in the browser using the game's open source GPL engine and free community assets, with DOOM II initially locked and difficulty settings ranging up to Nightmare. Play is free and requires only a name; connecting a Solana wallet enters a player's best run into a live scored leaderboard. The site stresses "No entry fee, no token, no unlock," a name alone being enough to play, with adding a wallet address the step that moves a run onto the paid leaderboard; only a player's best run of each round counts, and DOOM II Hell on Earth's 32 maps are listed but locked. Scoring awards 10 points per enemy killed, 5 per item, 25 per secret, and a 100 point mission clear bonus, and top performers each round share a pool of SOL paid on chain from the project's treasury. The reward asset is SOL itself rather than the DOOM token, which functions as the speculative wrapper around the game's attention. Prizes are real and auditable: SOL payouts go out from a treasury wallet with public receipts on Solscan; in the game's first days on chain records show the treasury seeded with about 15 SOL, topped up by hand from exchange withdrawals, and paying out about 10 SOL across roughly two dozen rounds to about 25 unique winners. ## Market history The DOOM token launched on [[pump.fun]] and, per DexScreener data, its PumpSwap pool was created around August 3, 2026. The token itself is a Token 2022 standard mint, not classic SPL, with mint and freeze authority both revoked and no transfer fee. Its peak came almost immediately: an early August roundup of the most traded pump.fun coins over 24 hours by the tracking account @PumpfunEco listed $Doom at 15 million dollars in daily volume, second on the board behind $CATE's 114 million and ahead of $ANSEM, $Jimothy, and $NEEGY. A canonical winner story from the run: @PumpfunEco highlighted a trader who bought 460 dollars of DOOM at about 116,000 dollars market cap and was sitting on about 12,000 dollars unrealized by August 4, 2026. Trader posts from launch day claim a run from about 205,000 dollars to about 5.8 million dollars market cap, roughly 28x in hours, a trader claim from PnL screenshots rather than an independently verified figure. The attention decayed quickly. As of August 19, 2026 DexScreener shows the main PumpSwap pool, created August 3, 2026, pricing DOOM around 0.00033 dollars, fully diluted value about 318,000 dollars, 24 hour volume about 80,000 dollars, liquidity about 67,000 dollars, plus a tail of small Meteora pools, a drawdown typical of game coins once the novelty run ends. Numerous unrelated DOOM tickers exist on Solana and elsewhere, including Doctor Doom themed coins; this article concerns the Doom Solana game coin. ## Assessment Doom's arc compresses the play to earn meme coin trade into a fortnight: a recognizable game, a leaderboard paying real SOL, a spike into a platform top volume list, and a fast fade as players banked prizes and traders rotated. Skeptics of the format note that such economies depend on continuous token trading fees to refill the prize treasury, an equilibrium few of these projects have sustained. ## References - doomsol.com: https://www.doomsol.com/ - X profile of @PumpfunEco: https://x.com/PumpfunEco - DexScreener: https://dexscreener.com/solana - X: https://x.com/i/communities/1951674145504112762 - X post by @SandyofCthulhu: https://x.com/SandyofCthulhu/status/2084351597329666466 - Wikipedia, Sandy Petersen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Petersen - X post by @angrytypers: https://x.com/angrytypers/status/2084360926979887608 - X post by @lowfloating: https://x.com/lowfloating/status/2084391078409498686 - X post by @seeyouinzion: https://x.com/seeyouinzion/status/2084379683332788687 - X post by @FreekeyFreekry: https://x.com/FreekeyFreekry/status/2084640143571669414 - X post by @_notyeti: https://x.com/_notyeti/status/2084461898825703492 - X post by @PumpfunEco: https://x.com/PumpfunEco/status/2084598458753691989 - X post by @PumpfunEco: https://x.com/PumpfunEco/status/2084580345387622500 - X post by @tagxalpha: https://x.com/tagxalpha/status/2084495958981976350 - Solscan: https://solscan.io/account/AiKfFHvK9A93iQYhnCE2SVNJnidTfncBxefAGM3LpncZ - Solscan: https://solscan.io/token/Gymbmn9wwMKe4NnmVceyyfpncp9arbwPfSdBsyY9pump - DexScreener: https://api.dexscreener.com/latest/dex/tokens/Gymbmn9wwMKe4NnmVceyyfpncp9arbwPfSdBsyY9pump
