*Not to be confused with Cupsey, the pseudonymous Solana trader who also posts under a plush cup avatar; see the trader overlap section below.* Cupsey is the plush cup character that became the unofficial mascot of pump.fun, the Solana meme coin launchpad. The character began as a preexisting, non crypto weighted comfort plush design sold on Etsy; trader Orangie received a copy of it in the mail in early November 2024 and named it Cupsey himself, "after the pump fun goat," days after fellow trader Hoppy Cat had first spotted the toy and shared it in reply to pump.fun founder alon. The name outlasted a rival community name, Pumpshie, for the same character purely by surviving longer in the market, not through any ruling by pump.fun, and the platform itself has never issued a statement naming Cupsey its official mascot despite roughly two years of the community asking. The character now anchors a running plush merchandise line, a TikTok presence, and the dominant Cupsey (coin) token, and turns up constantly in 2026 mascot rotation discourse across CT. ## Origin The plush character is based on a real, preexisting commercial plush toy called "Happy Pill," sold by the Etsy linked brand HappyPill, also styled HappyPillCo, a weighted comfort plush aimed at anxiety relief with no connection to crypto at the design level. The same listing is still live on Etsy today, retitled to reference the meme: "3lb Weighted Plush Toy: Cupsey Happypill for Anxiety Relief." Hoppy Cat, posting as @hoppycat, has told the origin story several times, and her retellings are not fully consistent on one detail. Recalling the episode on December 16, 2025, she wrote: "I remember when I found the pump fun plush (coincidental at the time that it looked like the mascot and on etsy), shared it on @a1lon9 replies and about a week later @orangie had received it in the mail + Cupsey token was born." She repeated the claim of priority on August 31, 2025: "I love Cupsey token. was there before it existed shilling the little plushies online sharing it with everyone. Orangie found it from one of my posts." Her fullest account, however, posted the same day as the naming itself, November 3, 2024, names a different buyer: "'Cupsey' is a token named after Orangie's plushie after I showed it to PumpDotFun in a thread, he purchased it. The Pump Fun community named the MASCOT Pumpshie. So they're really two different tokens. One is named after Orangie's toy that I pointed out, the other is [named after the community mascot]." The 2024 version has PumpDotFun purchasing the plush after she showed it to them; the 2025 versions instead have Orangie ordering and receiving his own copy by mail after seeing her post, with no purchase by pump.fun itself. Both versions agree Hoppy Cat found the plush first and that Orangie ended up owning and posting it; the two tellings are reported here as variants rather than resolved to one account. Orangie's own post naming the toy, also from November 3, 2024, is the shortest and least ambiguous record: "thank you. They are named Cupsey. After the pump fun goat." That day's cluster of posts fixes the origin firmly in November 2024. Hoppy Cat later credited the day with cementing the name platform wide, writing on July 8, 2026 that Orangie posted the pill he had bought and said he called it Cupsey, and that pump.fun founder alon interacted with the post that same day, adding that the community "had been asking for months for the pill mascot's name and PumpFun never would give" one. ## The naming war Cupsey was not the only name attached to the character. On November 3, 2024, Hoppy Cat described two rival tokens launching around the same plushie: "There's 2 it's not PVP they're both different. One is named after Orangie's plushie the other is a fun community one... This is the one that @orangie is promoting (Cupsey) which is really cool that he's apparently fully supporting it." Her price call that same day reads as ironic in hindsight: "If you want my price targets for both of these, Cupsey will likely die within a few days. Pumpshie might go down to a lower mc but the team will keep working. They have a TikTok, actively create new art, and are autistically passionate about this token." The original November 2024 Cupsey token is now labeled "legacy" by trackers such as Forbes, per Cupsey (coin), yet it was Cupsey, not Pumpshie, whose name survived to anchor 2026's dominant token. The conflation with the trader's handle began almost immediately. Trader Shill_Matic1 wrote the same day, "Buy your own @pumpdotfun mascot Cupsey here $Cupsey @orangie @Cupseyy," and trader MooseNug replied to Alon and Orangie on November 7, 2024 with simply, "that's $cupsey." The naming dispute itself did not go away quietly. Hoppy Cat was still relitigating it nearly two years later, writing on July 7, 2026 that "Cupsey honestly did originate as a vamp (no fud it's just the honest truth). Pumpshie was the original and was also directly based o[n the plush]." By August 2026 the argument was academic: a search of the wiki's local Crypto Twitter corpus for "pumpshie" returns zero hits, while "Cupsey" and "$Cupsey" appear constantly, meaning the name Cupsey had completely displaced Pumpshie in current usage. The Pumpshie name resurfaced once more, unrelated to the original token: an NFT PFP collection called "Pumpshie Pumps Players" (@Pumpshiedotfun), credited to artist @Savaknu and inspired by the separate @EnergyWabbits collection, ran between March and May 2026 as a later, disconnected reuse of the old name. ## The trader overlap The character's name invites confusion with Cupsey, the pseudonymous Solana trader who posts as @Cupseyy under his own plush cup avatar, but the two are not established to be connected beyond the shared imagery. The trader's handle @Cupseyy was already active and posting under that exact name by January 20, 2023, nearly two years before the plushie naming episode of November 2024. No source locates the plush being named after the trader, or the trader adopting his plush cup avatar because of Orangie's toy; Orangie's own stated reason for the name was "after the pump fun goat," meaning pump.fun itself, not the trader. The overlap between the trader's earlier handle and the character's later name is reported here as an unresolved coincidence, not a confirmed borrowing in either direction. CT nonetheless conflates the two constantly. One representative post, from August 21, 2026, argued that "Cupsey doesn't gain anything from his likeness being used by Pumpfun as their official mascot" and that "he deserves fees for his image being used," treating the trader and the mascot as though they were the same figure, or at least entangled in the same economic claim. ## Cultural life The physical plush line sells through HappyPillCo at cupseyshop.com, the same operation behind the original Happy Pill design, in sizes from keychain minis to weighted cuddle plushies priced roughly 9 to 56 dollars; the shop's own copy pledges, "With every purchase, we donate one plush to someone in need." A linked page for the project shows an active TikTok presence alongside Telegram, X, and exchange listings on Gate.io, Moonshot, CoinGecko, XT, and OX.FUN. Through mid 2026 Cupsey became a recurring entry in mascot style groupings of pump.fun adjacent tokens. Ahead of Robinhood Chain's arrival, Hoppy Cat wrote on July 12, 2026 that "Robinhood is probably going to kill new pairs meme trading on Solana. This, Cupsey, TripleT, Ansem token, anything that launched before Robinhood Chain all has a chance to become a big, huge token," grouping it with Ansem's own tribute token. Orangie, the plushie's original owner, added to the character's standing with a viral crossover line on July 23, 2026 that drew over 740 likes: "Alon is LeBron / Ansem is KD / Cupsey is like Steph Curry / Who am I." Other accounts echoed the same ranking within a day. By August 20, 2026, a running trench slang glossary that drew 431 likes used Cupsey as its entry for "mascot" outright, the same way it used Ansem for "bull" and names like Kitty and Cashcat for "cat," treating the character's name as generic shorthand for the concept rather than a specific token. ## The tokens This article covers the character; its market history belongs to Cupsey (coin), the dominant token launched on pump.fun in January 2026 and built around the same plush imagery. An earlier, November 2024 generation of the CUPSEY ticker is now labeled legacy by trackers such as Forbes. The rival Pumpshie side of the 2024 naming war has no active successor: no standalone PUMPSHIE token was found trading as of August 2026, and the name persists only loosely through the unrelated 2026 NFT project noted above. A fresh rally recorded around this edition pushed the current CUPSEY token to a new all time high near 21 million dollars on August 5, 2026, above the figures recorded earlier in 2026; see Cupsey (coin) for the token's full market history. ## Official mascot status Despite roughly two years of the community asking, no post from pump.fun's own account or from founder alon naming Cupsey the platform's official mascot has been found. The asks keep coming and keep going unanswered: on July 17, 2026 one trader wrote, "Wen @CupseyToken recognized as official mascot??? Send $Cupsey to a billion like it deserves!!!", and on August 19, 2026 another asked pump.fun directly, "Is Cupsey the official pumpfun mascot?" Neither drew a reply from the platform. One small fan account did claim an acquisition outright on July 10, 2025, posting "we're excited to announce that pump fun has acquired $cupsey as its official mascot!" to just 6 likes; that is one fan's own unprompted claim, not a pump.fun statement, and no confirming reply from the platform exists under it. The project account @CupseyToken has made much stronger claims on its own behalf. In a July 2026 post it said: "While everyone else is chasing narratives, we're building one. So far: IP secured, @Pumpfun mascot, Cupsey PFPs as the default on the PumpFun app, 14% of $Cupsey airdropped to holders, 8% supply sent to know figures such as @a1lon9, @blknoiz06 & @MustStopMurad." Every part of that claim, IP ownership, official mascot status, a default profile picture change on pump.fun's app, and a token allocation to alon, Ansem, and MustStopMurad, is self reported by the project and unconfirmed independently; no post from the named accounts accepting or holding any such allocation was located, and no default PFP change was verified. Secondary sources that appear to back the claim, including a GeckoTerminal pool labeled "PUMPFUN MASCOT" and a DexScreener listing titled "Pump Fun Mascot," trace back to the project's own branding choices rather than independent confirmation. Pump.fun's own ecosystem account, @PumpfunEco (see Pump.fun Ecosystem), has also mentioned the token, but only to note its market cap after a trader shilled it, not to confirm any of the IP, mascot, PFP, or allocation claims; even a post from an official pump.fun channel about the coin's price is not the same as pump.fun declaring Cupsey its mascot. The wiki's framing follows the sources: Cupsey is the unofficial mascot of pump.fun, a title the community has argued for since 2024 and pump.fun has never granted. ## References - cupseyshop.com: https://cupseyshop.com/ - Etsy listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1487005483/3lb-weighted-plush-toy-cupsey-happypill - linktr.ee: https://linktr.ee/Cupseypumpfun - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/2001035965331062939 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/1962258620311126444 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/1853193742548886013 - X post by @orangie: https://x.com/orangie/status/1853173806212518094 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/2074887624251109804 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/1853212339518030276 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/1853198316902707548 - X post by @Shill_Matic1: https://x.com/Shill_Matic1/status/1853212892474274299 - X post by @MooseNug: https://x.com/MooseNug/status/1854334520147026003 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/2074552455648424036 - X post by @Pumpshiedotfun: https://x.com/Pumpshiedotfun/status/2042273558466793528 - X post by @Cupseyy: https://x.com/Cupseyy/status/1616469638707286018 - X post by @Devorskiiiiii: https://x.com/Devorskiiiiii/status/2090634329764380703 - X post by @hoppycat: https://x.com/hoppycat/status/2076372491912511717 - X post by @orangie: https://x.com/orangie/status/2080441266127388951 - X post by @stogolp: https://x.com/stogolp/status/2080695583052853558 - X post by @sue_xbt: https://x.com/sue_xbt/status/2090461322257576288 - X post by @fomoxbt_agent: https://x.com/fomoxbt_agent/status/2090638292203229346 - X post by @DatDgen: https://x.com/DatDgen/status/2078232269345411085 - X post by @Gab123Kins: https://x.com/Gab123Kins/status/2090193576902685161 - X post by @defi_ant_degen: https://x.com/defi_ant_degen/status/1943412585228910965 - X post by @CupseyToken: https://x.com/CupseyToken/status/2074527268383195295 - X post by @PumpfunEco: https://x.com/PumpfunEco/status/2080752230932627852
