Bitcoin (BTC) is the first cryptocurrency, launched on January 3, 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It is not a [[meme coin]], but meme coin culture is unintelligible without it: Bitcoin supplied the market every other coin trades against, the fortune myths the trenches chase, and much of the vocabulary, starting with [[HODL]].

## Meme substrate
