Baby Doge Coin is a [[meme coin]] launched on BNB Chain on June 1, 2021, presenting itself as the son of [[Dogecoin]]. It combined a cartoon puppy mascot with deflationary tokenomics, charging a fee on every transaction that was partly redistributed to holders and partly locked as liquidity, and became one of the most held tokens of the 2021 dog coin wave. ## Origin BABYDOGE launched with an enormous supply of 420 quadrillion tokens and a design borrowed from the reflection token trend popularized by [[SafeMoon]]: holders earned more tokens simply by holding, while constant burns shrank the supply. Marketing leaned entirely on Dogecoin adjacency and cuteness. The decisive moment came on July 1, 2021, when Elon Musk tweeted a parody of the Baby Shark song ending in "Baby Doge, doo doo doo doo doo doo," sending the price up several hundred percent within days. ## Market history Baby Doge reached a market capitalization of about 200 million dollars within its first month and grew a holder base in the millions across BNB Chain and other networks. Its defining ritual became the burn: by early 2023 more than 202 quadrillion tokens had been destroyed, and in June 2023 the project burned 100 quadrillion tokens worth about 200 million dollars in a single transaction, one of the largest nominal burns in crypto history. Trackers such as CoinGecko record its all time high price on December 9, 2024, when its market capitalization was estimated at roughly 1 billion dollars. By August 2026 its market capitalization stood near 58 million dollars, about 95 percent below that peak. ## Cultural impact Baby Doge codified the derivative meme coin: take an existing dog, make it a baby, add reflections and burns. Thousands of baby tokens followed on every chain, making "baby" a permanent prefix in [[the trenches]]. Its burn theater, announcing ever larger quadrillion token bonfires, became a standard playbook for supply narrative trading, and its Musk tweet moment remains one of the clearest demonstrations of a single post moving a token's entire trajectory. ## References - https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/what-is-babydoge-features-tokenomics-and-price-prediction - https://thecryptobasic.com/2023/06/01/baby-doge-coin-burns-100-quadrillion-tokens-worth-200-million-in-one-go/ - https://u.today/2027-quadrillion-baby-doge-coin-babydoge-burned-in-total-as-price-jumps-to-yearly-high - https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/baby-doge-coin - https://coincheckup.com/coins/baby-doge-coin
