Alon Cohen, known across crypto social media simply as alon under the X handle @a1lon9, is a cofounder of pump fun and the platform's de facto spokesman. While cofounders Noah Tweedale and Dylan Kerler stay largely out of public view, Cohen announces product changes, responds to controversies and gives interviews, making him the most recognizable face of the largest meme coin launchpad in the trenches. Court filings in the platform's class action litigation identify him by the full name Alon Cohen and describe him as chief operating officer and a director of Baton Corporation Ltd, pump.fun's UK registered parent (see pump fun founders). ## Background Cohen is one of three young English entrepreneurs who launched pump.fun on January 19, 2024. The founders have said they built the platform after being rug pulled while trading meme coins themselves, aiming to standardize fair launches with no presales and no team allocations. Like his cofounders he initially kept his identity semi anonymous, operating only through his handle; the founders told WIRED that anonymity was a personal safety measure given the assets the platform controls. ## Public persona On X, alon mixes product announcements with meme fluent commentary, and his statements routinely move markets. In June 2024 both his personal account and the pump.fun account were briefly suspended by X and restored about a day later without a full explanation. During the November 2024 pump fun livestreaming crisis he acknowledged that the platform's content moderation "hasn't been great" before the feature was suspended. In December 2024 he confirmed that pump.fun's block of UK users, imposed after a Financial Conduct Authority warning, was permanent and was the company's own decision. ## Notable statements Cohen gave his first interview after the PUMP token generation event on the Threadguy livestream on July 23, 2025, during which the token fell nearly 15 percent while he spoke. He has argued that most altcoins now behave like meme coins and that retail traders had been hurt too badly to return for what he called lofty technology narratives. On the long promised PUMP airdrop, he tempered expectations in 2026 by saying it would not come in the immediate future. When pump.fun abandoned its policy of spending all revenue on token buybacks in April 2026, Cohen defended the new split of 50 percent to buybacks and 50 percent to operations, saying the business needed capital for product, hiring, marketing and acquisitions so pump.fun could survive for decades to come. ## Controversies As the platform's public face, Cohen is a named defendant in the consolidated class action Aguilar v. Baton Corporation in the Southern District of New York, which alleges that he and his cofounders profited from the sale of unregistered securities; the allegations are contested and unproven (see pump fun lawsuits). He has also absorbed community criticism over the delayed airdrop, the pump fun go bounty board backlash and reported layoffs before employee token vesting in 2026. ## References 1. https://phemex.com/academy/alon-cohen-pump-fun-solana-meme-empire 2. https://threadguy.buzzsprout.com/2535072/episodes/17798089-alon-cohen-founder-of-pump-fun 3. https://www.gate.com/learn/articles/a-live-broadcast-that-made-pump-fun-completely-break-out/10671 4. https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/pumpfun-co-founder-alon-cohen-says-most-altcoins-are-similar-to-meme-coins-cites-market-volatility 5. https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69593359/aguilar-v-baton-corporation-ltd-dba-pumpfun/ 6. https://decrypt.co/295355/solana-pump-fun-bans-uk-users-regulator 7. https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/04/29/pump-fun-burns-36-of-pump-supply-in-usd370-million-wipe-locks-50-revenue-into-ongoing-buybacks 8. https://protos.com/its-been-365-days-since-pump-fun-promised-an-airdrop-was-coming-soon/ 9. https://cryptonews.com/news/pump-fun-shuts-down-livestream-feature-following-graphic-content-and-threats-of-violence/ 10. https://x.com/a1lon9
