Phantom is the leading Solana wallet, founded in 2021, which evolved from a browser extension into a consumer trading app with swaps, perps, and prediction markets.

Function

Phantom is a self custody crypto wallet available as a browser extension and mobile app, supporting Solana along with Ethereum, Base, Bitcoin, and other networks. Beyond storing and sending assets, it has grown into a trading venue in its own right: in app token swaps, a memecoin discovery and trading surface, perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid since July 2025, and prediction markets, first via Kalshi from December 2025 and then via World Prediction Markets from June 1, 2026, with positions settled as native SPL tokens on Solana.

Use in the trenches

Phantom is the default front door of the Solana trenches: it is usually the first thing a new memecoin trader installs, and connecting Phantom is the standard onboarding step for pump.fun, Axiom, Jupiter, and every launchpad. Traders who never touch a terminal buy and sell directly in the app's swapper, and its token pages surface basic safety data in the spirit of RugCheck. Phantom users are also the primary target of drainer phishing campaigns across the ecosystem, making "never sign blind" a recurring community warning, though these attacks exploit users rather than the wallet software itself.

History

Phantom was founded in 2021 by Brandon Millman, Chris Kalani, and Francesco Agosti in San Francisco. It raised a 9 million dollar Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in July 2021, a 109 million dollar Series B led by Paradigm in January 2022, and a 150 million dollar Series C co led by Sequoia Capital and Paradigm in January 2025 at a 3 billion dollar valuation. The company reported 22 million active users around its Series C, and coverage of its 2025 results cited 320 million dollars in revenue, up from 200 million in 2024, driven largely by in app trading fees during the memecoin era. A DefiLlama snapshot from October 2025 placed Phantom among the top Solana apps by revenue.

Status in 2026

Phantom remains the dominant Solana wallet in 2026, expanding into consumer finance features, and has not launched a token despite recurring community speculation.
